Topic: The Weather

Vocabulary

Yesterday we prepared the stage set for our play. Well, we only finished it, the other group had done the house and part of the forest, students in this group made the grass, finished the hill, and drew some rocks, some flowers and leaves for the trees. It looks quite good.

It is The Little House in the Forest where the family of bears live. We learned some words related to the house and the landscape.

Roof, wall, window, bench, chimney, curtains, hills, bushes.

During the second half of the class we were rehearsing Goldilocks. All the actresses know their lines quite well and Sara and Mario do a good job reading the story. But it is important that everybody pays attention so they know exactly when they have to enter the scene and speak and the audience doesn´t have to wait. OK?

After rehearsing students were working with a partner and asking each other the exam questions for Unit 3.
Those questions were:
What do you do when you get home from school?
Do you watch TV in the evening?
How do you spend your free time?

Then the teacher asked them about their classmate´s answer. They all gave the correct answer.

In the Olympic Games - our last day this term - students got the following scores:

Today Jennifer told us about her daily routine. We found out a few things about her and her family, for instance, that her parents drink coffee in the morning but Jennifer and Amy, her sister, drink hot milk.

Students wrote some questions for her and then asked her. Some of the students asked: Do you live in Alamo Street? or What does Amy do after breakfast? or even Does Amy have breakfast with you? or What does Amy do after breakfast? Jennifer could not answer this last question, she said she didn´t know.

Today, again, we rehearsed the play:  Angela was missing and Sara had to leave early. We missed them when we were rehearsing the play. Mario had to do Mummy Bear´s lines. He did it quite well.

For the Olympic Games students had to write:

2 things they do in the kitchen,
2 things they do in the bedroom
2 things they do in the school
2 things they do in the bathroom
1 thing they do in the street
1 thing they do in the living-room.

Today we were rehearsing Goldilocks. Most of the actresses and actors know their lines already and they did a GREAT JOB.

We were also practicing numbers: from 1 hundred to 9 hundred. And the words: after, then and next. Students had to link numbers on the board: they had to find the next number and connect it with the one before. That´s what the Olympic Games were about. Students had to write the numbers they were told. This group is great for numbers. Check the scores:

We continued studying daily actions.  We did a couple of exercises from the book. Students had to get together and ask each other 6 questions the teacher had written on the board. They had to write down their partner´s reply.
In the second exercise they had to connect some verbs with the right nouns to make sense. Enjoy your weekend and don´t forget to keep reahearsing for our play.

In our last lesson we were asking questions in the Present Simple. We asked about things we do every day. We also learned how to give short answers.

Do you wash your hair every day? Yes, I do. or No, I don´t

or

Does your friend read books every day? Yes, he does, or No, he doesn´t.

Does your mother cook dinner every day? Yes, she does, or No, she doesn´t.

Students worked with a partner and had to write 6 questions for 2 other classmates. They all did a very good job¡

We were asking questions in the Present Simple: What time do you start school? What time does your mother get up? Do you have a shower or a bath? What do you study in Spanish?

Remember, when we talk about what we do we always say I. If we don´t say I nobody understand what we are saying.

We started the lesson saying when is our birthday and then each student said when is the birthday of somebody in their family.
Students asked each other: what time do you get up? and they answer the question.

They also ask each other: what time do you get up? And they answered: I get up at ... ( Ex:A quarter to 8).

We continue with the school subjects unit. Today students practiced things they study in each one of the subjects: the teacher made 2 columns on the board. On the left there was a list of subjects. On the right there was a list a things children study. Students had to ask each other questions like:
Do you study mountains in sciences?  The other student had to answer: No, I don´t, I study mountains in geography or in social science.

For the Olympic Games students had to write as many subjects as they could remember with something they studied in that subject.

We started the lesson as usual: saying the day of the week and the date and talking about the weather. 

Only a few of them had done their homework, GOOD FOR YOU, so we were practicing questions like:

What do you have on Monday for your first period? And then what time do you ha maths? or Do you have P.E. on Wednesday?

We learned what we study in each subject like nouns and verbs  English or Spanish, mountains and rivers in Geography, drawing and painting in art, addition and multiplication in maths.
We learned some irregular plurals, like child/children, man/men, woman/women. These plurals are irregular because usually nouns only take an s to be plural: book/books.

Today there were 2 teams competing in the Olympic Games: they had to pick up a little paper from a bag and answer a question. These are the scores.

Since tomorrow is Halloween we were learning a Halloween song: The Scary Skeleton . For homework students have to watch the video and learn the part of the song they read in class. Click on the link, which is the title of the song.

Today we started a new unit. This unit is about school. We are learning the different subjects: maths, sciences, geography, Spanish language, P.E. , history, art, music, social sciences, IT.

Students spelled their names.

We listened to a recording and students had to put the subjects in the order in which they had heard them.

Some students said what subjects they have on Monday.

We were reviewing how to say the time and then students filled in a worksheet that had clocks. They had to write the time. For the Olympic Games the teacher asked students questions like: What time is on the 1st clock? They all did very well.

Finally we were watching the Goldilocks video. Thank you Angela´s mother for writing down the lines.

Homework for next week: Write the date of birth of everybody in your family.

Example: My mother´s date of birth is: September 6th, 1980
First we were reviewing the months. January, February, March ... etc. and backwards: December, November, October...
Today in our lesson we were learning how to say the date. Before that and as warming up students ask one another questions about the weather today and yesterday. They had to come up with the questions themselves. A classmate would answer.
Students lined up and said which position in the line they were.
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th ....
21st, 31st, 23rd, 22nd....
We played a game: each student had a calendar and they had to move accross it going from box to box. they had to say the date they were on. The other students had to note it down on their own calendar.
We learned how to say the years. Finally we had a little contest where students had to write down the dates that the teacher dictated.
